Let the juicing begin

Day 1 of 2 of my juice fast.

Preparation:
I've given up caffeine (for the most part..been drinking decaf), smoking and drinking for the past week.
I had a deep tissue massage last Wed evening.
I've been eating more raw foods the past week than I normally would.
Have not had time to workout any in the past week (for shame).

Saturday:
  Breakfast:
Juice of: 2 apples, 2 celery stalks, 5 skinny carrots and 1 beet.
  Lunch:
Juice of: 1 apple, 1 peach. (appetizer)
Juice of: 2 celery stalks, 5 skinny carrots, 1 tomato, very small handful of spinach, small handful of cilantro, way too much parsley and a squeeze of lemon to kick back the parsley. (entree)
1/4 bottle of Odwalla "Mango Tango" and 1/2 bottle of Odwalla "Superfood" (desert)
  Dinner:
Pre-dinner snack of Ultra-Clear™ liver detox stuff
Juiced 2 oranges with my new press
Juiced 3 celery stalks, 8 carrots, 1 tomato, little bit of wheatgrass and a large squeeze of lemon juice.
Drank a whole bottle of Superfood while out at Keith's birthday party and after returning home.

Sunday:
  Breakfast:
Juiced 3 bananas, 2 apples, 1 kiwi and 2 large oranges. (bananas don't juice very well - lots of fiber made it into the drink)
  Lunch:
Juiced lots of strawberries, blueberries, 2 apples and half an orange (mostly strawberries)
Juiced 8 tiny carrots, handful of: cilantro, parsley, watercress, a few dandelion leaves, most of a beet, 1.5 celery stalks, a green onion and half a tomato.
  Dinner:
Juiced 10 carrots, 2 celery stalks and 1 tomato.
Drank half bottle of Superfood before going to bed.

Monday:
  Breakfast:
Juiced 1 apple, 1 kiwi, 1 large peach, 3 strawberries and 1 large orange.
Ate whole: 1 banana, 1 large peach, 3 strawberries.
  Lunch:
I predict that it will be salad, black bean stew + rice.

Notes:
Saturday morning: After my breakfast today, my bloodsugar went up more than usual. I took 5 units instead the usual 8 that is needed for 2 packets of oatmeal. That calculation was based on my gut feeling estimate of how many carbs the oatmeal has compared to, well, 2 apples and a beet.
After doing some research, I found the following:
Item Carb grams
2 Carrots 14
2 Apples 42
2 Celery Stalks 2
1 Beet 11 (guess based on cooked beet)
==================
Total: 79g carbs with no fiber

That's about twice the amount I normally consume for breakfast [edit: that's actually just about what I would normally consume for breakfast, but the oatmeal has a lower glycemic index, so it would take longer to affect me]. I would imagine a lot of those carbs end up in the trash as the solid bits, but certainly not half of them. I need more insulin ;)

I should have taken insulin sooner - I usually don't need to take it until after I'm done eating. The usual formula for "effective carbs" (total carbs minus fiber carbs) is what's screwing me up here - the juice doesn't have hardly any fiber so all of the carbs are messing with my blood sugar. I just took an extra 6 units of insulin, bringing me up to 11 units for breakfast.

I should workout today and sit in the steam room at Ballys, but I'm a little timid about working out on this liquid diet.

Lunch today was wierd. I way overdid it on the parsley. Luckily, the lemon toned it down a bit. Everything in moderation, right?
I kinda feel like drinking the Odwalla is cheating. There's something distinct about fresh juice that juice in a bottle just doesn't have. There are flavors that I don't necessarily like, but my body associates them with healthy food that it wants. Since I had to give up my large tub of baby spinach due to the ecoli scare, I had to alter my plans a little. I ran out of apples, peaches and celery and will soon be out of carrots. I must hit Whole Foods soon.

Sat. Evening update: I finally got *hungry* tonight. I was getting a headache from lack of caffiene, so I drank a few gulps of green tea. I think that gave me a stomach ache (tea usually does). The tea drove off the headache, and the back room full of smokers took care of whatever smoking urge I might have had. I can't wait to get over caffiene.

Sunday morning update: I took insulin almost an hour before breakfast to offset sugar spikes from breakfast and a slightly high blood sugar starting point. This drink turned out rather tasty and hearty thanks to the large chunks of banana that slipped by the filter. Oh, well. I just remembered that we have a bunch of strawberries that I should have put in here. The peaches I bought aren't ripe enough just yet, unfortunately.

Sunday afternoon update: one green onion goes a very long way. brindle got a similar lunch as I did, but she got less celery and beet. I like mine better than hers ;) BTW, no more blood sugar issues since yesterday morning. In fact, the only issues that I've had have been over my lack of caffiene and the cheating just enough to stave off the withdrawal headaches.

Sunday night update: After two days on a liquid diet, I'm pleasantly surprised. I've gained almost 2lb, gained 1.5% body fat and lost 2% water content according to our high dollar fancy Target bathroom scale. I've consumed only juiced raw veggies with very little, if any, fat, fiber or protien. Anything with fat, fiber or protien is getting very tempting at this point. I can't wait to be done with this tomorrow.

Monday morning update: I ate food this morning (fruit). It was great. Later, I'll eat fats and oils and all will be well.
