Feeling Butch

Tonight at kung fu, I (a level 1 student) sparred with a level 5 student. We were the only 2 students in class. That was pretty much the whole evening's class after warming up a bit. I practiced tiger style (close range) while my opponent used crane style (long distance). By the end, I was completely drenched in sweat. After the first 45 minutes or so, the instructor jumped in and we had a 3-sided free for all for another half hour. I got various scrapes and scratches from the experience, but learned a lot about my limitations and balance. I learned that some of the tricks that I did when playing with my brother as a child were valid kung fu techniques. Other tricks that I had learned as a child didn't hold up against trained fighters. As they say, practice makes tired...err..better..whatever.

brindle ordered us some Garmon vegan hiking boots and they arrived today. I have them on now. They are quite comfortable, but I would probably appreciate thicker socks for them than the ones I wore all day today. I look like a granola hippie in these things. I keep smelling patchouli coming from somewhere. :P

I spent some of the weekend doing drywall in the back of our house. All of the major holes in our ceiling are covered, but not completely sealed yet. I don't know if I'm going to mess with it until we figure out what to do with the back bathroom.

As posted on brindle's journal, we are travelling to the 4-corners area soon (hence the hiking boots). I expect great amounts of joy to be had.
