FYI, for anyone running VMWare on your windows box, the MS Loopback interface is your friend. You can create your own private network between host and guest operating systems. This is great for setting up a development environment with a virtual machine. I'm currently running the latest version of Ubuntu in a virtual machine running on a winXP laptop. I run samba on the VM and that's how I typically access files on it or via SSH terminal. The only drawback that I currently see is that the VM does not have internet access with this configuration. I'll figure that out eventually.
